The AirLive WL-5400PCM is a 54Mbps Wireless PC Card with outstanding performance for notebook computers. Fully compliant with the latest IEEE 802.11G standard, the card allow high speed wireless connection at the same frequency spectrum as 802.11b. Rated at 17dBm output power, users no longer have to compromise between speed and distance. Best of all, it is compatible with most 802.11g and 802.11b devices.
Conventionally, when an 802.11b device is present inside a 802.11g environment, the performance of the entire wireless network can be brought down to the same level as the 802.11b speed (or worse). This has been a particular challenging issue as the wireless networks are based on sharing architecture. The OvisLink 802.11g family are equipped with the latest Nitro Mode technology to lessen the b+g collision problem. Nitro mode adds "RTD/CTS" packet in front of the "11g" packets to avoid the collision and the interference with "11b" clients. Furthermore, Packet Bursting is used to extend the timing for "11g" traffic. The end result is higher overall performance in the real world environment.
Security has been always a concern for Enterprise to implement wireless device into their networks. The new WPA encryption standard (Wi-Fi Access Protect) has been developed to strengthen the wireless security for enterprise environment. The Key to WPA is the use of Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) to bolster encryption of wireless packets. TKIP provides important data encryption enhancements including a per-packet key mixing function, a message integrity check (MIC), an extended initialization vector (IV) with sequencing rules, and a re-keying mechanism. Through these enhancements, the WPA addresses all WEP's known vulnerabilities. The card also support the standard 64/128-bit WEP encrption.
